Certification in classical homeopathy is given by only some schools of USA. Everglades University in Florida offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in alternative medicine, which includes a homeopathic component, but schools specializing in classical homeopathy are few and far between. Those that do exist are listed below.
The Institute of Classical Homeopathy
The ICH is a not for profit school of classical homeopathylocated in San Francisco. It offers a four year academic program drawn from the writings of Dr Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, which adheres to the standards of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners, the most rigorous standards of classical homeopathy in the world today.
In keeping with the ethos of homeopathy, teaching at the ICH uses holistic methods and eschews rote learning. Their thinking is that homeopathy is not just a question of learning the right drugs like orthodox medicine; it is a whole state of mind. The school therefore tries to develop a homeopathic way of thinking in the students, by keeping class sizes small, so that students can explore creative solutions to medical problems. Debate and “outside the box” thinking are positively encouraged, in order to maximize student’s potential.
The Homeopathy School of Colorado
The Homeopathy Schoolof Colorado is a well established school of classical homeopathy located in Boulder, where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. The school offers a two year certification program in classical homeopathy and graduates are entitled to carry the letters C.They suffix Hom in their name. The program consists of lectures, interactive class work and supervised clinical studies. It aims to develop listening skills and empathy in the students that will enable them to make successful diagnoses and to teach health through example.
The Homeopathy School of Colorado’s roster of visiting lecturers includes some of the world’s most respected practitioners of homeopathy. More locally, it hosts an outreach program designed to bring homeopathy into the community.
American Medical College of Homeopathy
The American Medical College of Homeopathy is a school of classical homeopathylocated in Phoenix, Arizona. It offers certification in homeopathy both on campus and online. There is also a homeopathic acute health program and several distance learning courses, including one in Green Health Care. The college plans to offer a 4-year doctoral program in classical homeopathy starting in 2011, the first college in the country to do so. A bachelors degree is required to enroll in the certification program.
