2009 November 28

There are many schools that make expansive claims to assist those who have very specific career ambitions. Anything from general business studies to culinary arts, there is likely a very targeted school geared directly towards your goals for future employment if you look hard enough. One of the more popular sorts of institution are fashion and design colleges. The best part is that you can get a serious job in fashion design via job placement and apprenticeship programs from these institutions.

You can literally spend hours going through “the best” of what fashion and design colleges there are. The reality is that a number of them just claim to be the best fashion colleges and have no real substantiation to support the claim. However by way of much research I think that I have compiled a list of three of the strongest and most efficient fashion and design colleges in the country.

There is no order to these schools, as they’re all highly respected fashion colleges.

A good place to start is with LIM College located comfortably in the heart of Manhattan, NY. They regard themselves as one of the premier fashion colleges in the entire country for those looking for serious employment in the fashion industry. While their main draw is undergraduate programs, they also have graduate MBA programs for those wanting to take their potential involvement in the fashion community seriously.

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is also very worthwhile mentioning. For example, they have several campuses all over California, which permit more diversity with regard to who can get in. The campuses are situated in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco and San Diego. They too regard themselves as the apex of design training, and this is apparent by the fact that the hit show Project Runway is filmed on an FIDM campus. Furthermore, the school offers serious internship and apprenticeship possibilities for diligent students who meet the standards.

The final college to be discussed won the Best Fashion Design & Apparel Design Schools & Programs of 2008 award. The Academy of Art University was founded in San Francisco eighty years ago, and has not slowed down since then. The best part about this institution is that they provide at least most of the required credits by way of web based courses. The following companies are said to choose amongst AAU graduates: Kenneth Cole, BDBG, Louis Vuitton, DKNY and quite a few more.

These schools are a place for you to start your search. They are all serious contenders in getting you employed. The preference hinges on where you want to go, or where you currently live.
