How to be the teacher while your children are in bed

2010 June 25

Almost no parents wonder what happens inside their childrens’ brain once they left them at bed, and few have never wonder if they could continue guiding and educating them during these hours. For sure, it can be done… and must be done! I will show you how using just an ancient tool a short story for children.

When we sleep, the dominant side of our brain, the one that we can control, pass the control to the extremely automated inconcious part of the brain, which performs a set of important “maintenance” activities, like classifying memories and moving them from short term storage zones to long or medium term ones. During this process, each memory will have a destination. There are many options: a specific memory can be marked as trash or as an important lesson that will be key in our future decissions. As you know, dreams are just the results of our brain’s games.

But, what are the most popular of our memories, the ones that get a special attention from our brain? Those that were strongly remarked on the children’s conscious mind during that day. However, due to the lack of attention and speed they live with, it is very difficult for them to be impressed by anything.

However, if you look for a time of the day where children are quiet and calm, you will find it: bedtime. In addition, we can also use something children really like: to have fun with us, getting our fiuill attention. This great cocktail results in a few very minutes where they will be your followers. Then, if we start using short stories for kids to teach morals, and leverage the impact of this lessons through excellent and involved performances, the brain of our childrens will help them continue learning overnight. And thats a lot of learning.

So my advice is to start your “parent storytelling career” just today, being funny and memorable. After some time, you will notice.
