Passing Exams & Exam Technique
Most people struggle when it comes to passing exams. There are many potential reason why you are finding it hard. Don’t be hard on yourself; passing exams doesn’t come easy to many of us. There are many ways that you can improve; you can work on revision techniques and your exam technique.
Before coming to that though, you need to put the effort in when you are studying the course. We know this but a lot of us don’t do anything about it. This is something we all say we will do next time, but this time the course is about to end and the exams are coming.
What activities can you do that will help you with passing exams? Start to take responsibilty for the consequences of your actions. You need to commit to yourself right now that you are going to put the work in.
OK, so you know that you need to work hard? OK, we will have a look at revision techniques. Start as early as you can and put together a revision timetable. Now you have already committed to working hard so I’m sure that you are going to stick to it!
You need to think about the what times of the day you work best and feed that into your revision timetable. Only revise for short periods. You won’t be able to take everything in if you revise for long periods as your brain will become tired. Your time will be wasted. Take a break if you need to but make sure you keep your breaks short.
The other part of passing exams is a good exam technique. Like most things this can be learnt with practice. Dig out old exam papers and practice. You need to time yourself as well, make sure the conditions are as close to the real thing.
After a bit of practice you should have a good understanding of how long it takes you to do certain questions. When you first open the exam paper quickly read through it so that you have a good idea of how long it will take to complete each section. Try and stick to time allowances you have given yourself while leaving enough time to go back and make corrections. The last thing you want is the bell to go before you finish all the questions!
Make sure that you answer all of the questions and when you are answering them… actually answer them. What I mean by that is make sure that you understand what you are being asked, don’t just write about the issues generally, be specific.
When you are committed to passing exams you are half way there. Just combine this with a little exam technique and you will be easily passing exams in no time.
