The essay covers 30% of the total score of the Writing section, while 70% goes to the multiple choice part. The writing section is formulated to be able to test the student’s writing skills.

There is a more valuable reason why the SAT exam is divided into these three major parts. The Critical Reading section is mainly for testing the students vocabulary. The Mathematics section is included to test and enhance the student’s logical reasoning and problem solving skills. As was already mentioned earlier, the Writing part is included to measure the student’s writing ability.

The SAT exam will take three hours and forty-five minutes. Although most of the time, the whole process will also include miscellaneous procedures such as filling out the biographical sections, distribution of exam material, orientation and including timed breaks.
